Maximizing the Benefit of Medication

We have been learning the wrong way, all along. In order for us to grow as innovators and changemakers that solve grand challenges, we need to break away from inaccurate conventional learning practices. We can’t wait for the institutions and environments to catch up and teach us, instead we must initiate our learning and become sponges in the problems we are solving. We have more opportunity to grow, transform ourselves and make a greater impact than ever before. We have access to the greatest tools in human history! With a background ranging from engineering and entrepreneurship to teaching and education leadership — Ryan Makhani offers a unique perspective on learning and personal development.  From Silicon Valley companies to non-profits, Ryan has lived and worked in San Francisco, London, Atlanta, New York and Houston. Ryan is currently pursuing Learning and Development within the Legaltech sector.

As a former teacher within the Ismaili Muslim Community, he witnessed firsthand the cognitive, emotional, and social barriers that make the learning process so arduous. This inspired him to start BuildMyIdea and MyCollegeMap as ventures to empower innovative youth leadership. His multi-disciplinary background includes a BS in Electrical Engineering from UCLA, a Master's in Muslim Societies and Civilizations from the Institute of Ismaili Studies and Master's in Teaching from University of London.

In his talk, Ryan draws upon his diverse experiences to challenge common myths and misconceptions about how people learn. He advocates for an approach that encourages unlearning outdated beliefs and pushing one's boundaries. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
