Adventures: An Education
A passionate science educator, Dr. Geoff Steeves is a physics professor at the University of Victoria and co-founder of the StarAcer Academy, a grades 4-6 science education program with the mission of"Engaging students with tales of adventure, to educate and inspire future astronauts." This program was inspired by his experiences as a top 16 finalist in the 2008/09 Canadian Space Agency's Astronaut Recruitment Campaign. In Victoria, on the beautiful west coast of Canada, Geoff teaches optic, electronics, mechanics and conducts research in ultrafast microscopy. He completed his Ph.D. in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics at the University of Alberta in 2001, followed by an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship in Spintronics and Quantum Computing at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Geoff's appetite for exploration led him to obtain his commercial pilot license in 2008. In addition, he completed the International Space University's (ISU) Space Studies Program in 2010 and continues to be involved with ISU as the Chair of the Space Physical Sciences Department.
